Wednesday, Feb 11:  We were all packed up and ready to leave. Here’s a photo of Louie and Rosie in the van with ONLY dog-related items – can you see how much stuff is in there already?  Amazing!  There is NOTHING of ours even in there yet! We were all ready to depart at 8:34am when did our customary reality check: Do you have the passports? Do you have your sunglasses? your cell phone? etc. Well, sadly, one of us did not know where his sunglasses were. This necessitated a search (TSA on steroids) through said person’s suitcase and backpack – several times. He looked; I looked. We didn’t get mad and we didn’t say bad words – we have manners, after all. Finally, after 30 minutes, he located the wayward sunglasses hiding in his day pack, which was packed inside his suitcase. And we were off at last! We stopped by La Canada to say “Hi” to sister Sally and then managed the drive up to Fresno in record time. We spent the night last night at my sister Jane’s where she cooked a marvelous chicken piccata dinner for us – yum! Thursday, Feb 12: This morning, JB and I drove to the Fresno Airport to pick up a rental car – for driving to SFO – so the van can stay at Jane’s. Then I removed about 5 pounds of “redundant” clothing from my suitcase to get it under the weight limit and finished up some odds and ends. Louie and Rosie were increasingly stressed as they sensed our imminent departure (or was that just ME?) Poor pups! Poor us! Finally, at 12:20pm, we drove out of Fresno..  headed for the Bay Area. We had a wonderful dinner (complete with TWO bottles of excellent wine) with a GREAT friend at Paul Martin’s American Grill in Hillsdale. Now here we are at the San Francisco Int’l Airport, waiting for our 12:05am departure to Singapore. We are excited and starting to meet others here who are going on the same Road Scholar trip. Adventure awaits! So… the next post will be coming to you from Asia. Please note that we have been warned that internet service may be spotty and/or non-existent. We will write and post when we can.
