St Petersburg Russia to Moscow River Cruise

Visit St Petersburg Russia, Cruise on the Uniworld River Victoria

Hello Friends!!

Welcome to our St Petersburg Russia to Moscow blog.  This is the story of our two week river cruise on the Uniworld River Victoria, a fantastic river boat that carries about 200 passengers, and has an all-Russian crew.  We started in St Petersburg and went north on the Neva and Volga rivers, through many locks, to Moscow.  We give you our impressions of places we visit and tell you fun stuff about what we did.

It was tough for us to do this blog for St Petersburg Russia to Moscow Blog while we were on the cruise ship.  The Internet connection was spotty on the Uniworld River Victoria.  Apparently it was a satellite connection, which was slow, and certainly we could only use it while we were moored at a dock.

In Russia today, or maybe on a cruise ship, they don’t have a way to give you a consistent connection. At best we could connect for a few minutes at a time and sometimes not at all.  So you paid a few bucks and took your chances.  Every now and then it would work a little in the room, but really you had to go to the “Internet Desk” and use your computer there.  So don’t expect to have a good Internet connection on a river cruise.

St Petersburg Russia FountainWe have a lot of pictures, especially of St Petersburg Russia, which is really beautiful. Be sure to check out the “Slideshows” when you find them.

Generally you can click on images to see larger, more detailed photos.  Just click on the button or link, or sometimes on the pictures themselves, and give it a try.  Sometimes you click the back button to come back, some time press <Esc>.

In St Petersburg Russia, we visit some amazing tourist sites, like the Hermitage Museum, Catherine Palace, and the Peterhof Palace Gardens (left), and we include lots of pictures.

Most of the buildings in St Petersburg Russia, are old looking but have been kept cleaned up and looking good, we thing so that it will keep the tourists coming back.

A couple of our stops on the Uniworlds River Victoria Cruise Ship are islands or small towns, like Kihzi (see the Kizhhi Church of the Transfiguration below), Kirilov and Goritzky. The are alittle on the touristy side, but interesting nonetheless.

One place for sure we would like to come back to, maybe by car, is Yaroslavl. It is city that while small, is still very cosmopolitan. It exudes creativity and friendliness, and also is very beautiful.

Of course, we visit Moscow, the Kremlin, and go to the Moscow Circus, but we couldn’t take pictures in the Circus. And we were able to have dinner at the Captain’s table and meet all the wonderful crew.

Be sure to leave us comments!!  We will try to respond.  Hope you enjoy our adventures in this blog!!
