Llao Llao Peninsula – Summer Solstice

Bariloche – Going to Llao Llao

This morning we breakfasted in our room (ham sandwich, yogurt, grapefruit juice, banana and leftovers Gnocci dinner from the other night). The idea is that it is so easy to just spend a buck or two in the room rather than going overboard down at the restaurant. Then we drove along the lake from Bariloche to the west. Bariloche is on the south side of a large lake – Lago Nahuel Huapi – that’s pronounced “Lago Na-well Wha-pee” – and it’s a very, very large lake. The pictures shown are as follows:

  • The Irish Pub from dinner on the first night here. Just had to have a picture of this.
  • JB picking up our laundry. What a guy! It was perfect, by the way. The laundry, I mean. Although JB is great in his own way too!
  • Pictures along the road, showing lots of places to stay and yellow flowers. There is no way to convey how wonderful these flowers are – big bushes, growing wild, all along the roads.
  • Pictures of our trip up the chairlift at Cerro Campanario – for the views, and  pictures of the Llao Llao Hotel and Resort – where we had lunch.

The view from the top of Cerro Campanario (accessed via chairlift) on the way to Llao Llao was spectacular. It was VERY windy at the top. So much so that when I walked over to the walled edge of the high tower (see picture), JB actually grabbed onto the back of my jacket – for my security. It was blowing that hard!

The Llao Llao Resort (if we were in San Diego or most South American countries, this would be pronounced “yaow yaow”, but here in Argentina, as we’ve mentioned previously, it’s “Shaow Shaow” – sort of like a koala) is quite something. There is the municipal Llao Llao Park which is lovely – all forest- it’s really a peninsula. The resort is right beside it – and it’s listed in the Best Small Hotels of the World. And rightfully so. The pictures shown here don’t do it justice. JB and I had a marvelous lunch here in a glass enclosed dining room with great views. I had a chicken sandwich and JB had a tenderloin beef sandwich (he says ‘good, but not as tangy as the last one’) – he got rid of all the bread! Mine was served on brioche – and was quite yummy.
