Iguazu Falls – Wonder of the World

Iguazu Falls on the Border near Brazil and Uruguay

Carol and I have been to the Grand Canyon and Niagra Falls, and now Iguazu Falls. I read somewhere that Iguazu Falls is Natural World Number 9, and Niagra Falls is 7. Victoria Falls is somewhere in there. There are many such lists, all different.  Now that I have seen Iguazu, I would put it above Niagra, but who cares. Victoria is on my bucket list for the next few years.  Check your lists and make your choice!

See our picture post on Iguazu Falls for more pictures.

Argentina Tours Iguazu Falls with Carol and JB in frontWe got up somehow magically at 7:00 on Friday.  I say magically because we had not set our watches, the wakeup call from the front desk did not happen, and we were both very tired. Quick dash of water behind the ears, a nice complimentary breakfast downstairs and we are out on the “Jungle Adventure”. This is a $60 US tour suggested by the front desk Manager that included all of the various sites at the Argentinian Iguazu Falls, and also a little side trip in case you want to get slightly wet driving a boat under the thundering falls.

Before I continue, let me mention that there is some disagreement about whether you have to pay the $60 US, or maybe $120 US or some other random amount to go over to the Brazilian side of the falls. Over there you get a wide panoramic view of the Iguazu Falls. If you go with a tour, you pay, or maybe if you walk you don’t, or if you are in a taxi you pay the driver and he pockets it. Very hard to get a straight answer.

Our wonderfully organized tour guide, Ignatia, was with us and 20 other people the whole day. The falls are so amazing I will not fool around joking about the trip. Besides, I’m torched and do not have the energy. Just check out some of these pictures from Carol and you will get an idea of how amazing it was. It certainly is a Wonder of the World.

iguazu-falls-jb-at-the-edgeAt the end, we went on a powerboat ride up to the bottom of two of the falls. They played with us at first and did not get close, but on the second go, they went very close to the falls, the waves came over the side of the boat, and everyone was totally drenched. Then they did it on section 2 just to make sure we were wet to the bone. They were taking a movie, but we passed on the $25 US Iguazu Falls DVD. Sorry.

Back to the room, all we wanted to do was unwind, so we went to the bar and had a couple large drinks. Ergo, this loquacious blog entry.

So we went downtown, got a T-shirt, and searched for something simple for dinner. Ah, “Casa JB Pizza”. No kidding. Juan Batista Pizza. Of course, keeping good form, we indulged, has some great pizza, some cheap wine, a few Spanish lessions and we were ready for the sack. The most enjoyable dinner of the trip so far.

See you tomorrow!
