Villa La Angostura – Moving Day

Villa La Angostura – Moving to Hosteria Las Acacias

Saturday – it’s time to change our place of residence! We checked out of hotel at 11am and checked out an artesan place nearby. They had nice things, but we didn’t buy anything.

Villa La Angostura - Hosteria Las Acacias bedroomWe drove up to our new home on the north side of Lago Nahuel Huapi – “Hosteria Las Acacias” in Puerto Manzano, a suburb right outside the upscale town of Villa La Angostura (“Narrow Village”). Also known as Villa de los Angostura, this town is touted as for travelers seeking solitude”).

It is a bit like Aspen, Colorado, or Rancho Santa Fe, near San Diego – lots of high end shops, many, many restaurants. It is similar to Bariloche being like Lake Tahoe, but more upscale.  It is extremely beautiful – although at this point, very windy and rainy.  Remember, “high end” at this date in Argentina costs half what you might expect.

We checked in to the hosteria set back in the woods off the road – very small and intimate. The manager, Fernando, showed us to our rooms – two connected rooms.

The other side has 2 twin beds, plus a small kitchen, complete with sink, microwave, table, etc. Also another bathroom. Lots of room to spread out. We’re happy.

JB has moved our entire network infrastructure, patch panel and routers, and reinstalled it all here.  Ok, not really, he just plugged in the TV connector box.  The network is slower here except in the morning, so we are on evening news restriction for a few days.

Fernando showed us many points of interest on the map of Villa La Angostura and we ended up having lunch at a place called ISSN.  Actually the restaurant is sort of near this ISSN thing, which is some sort of international society for ecology or the like, and their sign is the biggest, so that is how you find it.  The restaurant is overlooking a beautiful little bay (of course).  I had chicken with a garlic/tomato sauce and JB had pasta with ham and peas.  Yum!   Took the leftovers home, of course.

After lunch we walked down to the shoreline and around the bay to the place where they sell tickets on the ferry that goes out to the peninsula (more about this on another day) and then promptly got lost coming back on the road to Villa La Angostura – so it took us a while to get back to our car, Jorge.  A test of marital strength – “I think it’s that way” – “No, it’s over there” – all done in the pouring rain.  Happy to report the marriage survived.

On the way, we passed an eagle sculpture out of a 20-foot tall tree stump and that was pretty fun.

Once back home, we elected to stay put at Acacias in Villa La Angostura, and just hang out. So it was leftovers for dinner – the small portions were a relief, actually.
